The company known as the Beaufort Plow Boys was raised in Beaufort County, North Carolina in October, 1861, as Captain Henry Harding's Independent Company, North Carolina Troops. It was mustered into Confederate service at Washington, North Carolina on November 9, 1861 for twelve months. On an unknown date subsequent to April 15, 1862, its term of service was extended to three years or the duration of the War. On or about September 5, 1862, the Company was assigned to the newly organized 59th Regiment N.C. Troops. That unit was redesignated the 61st Regiment N.C. Troops on an unknown date between October 30 and November 22, 1862. The company was then designated as Company B, 61st Regiment North Carolina Troops.

The Beaufort Plow Boys Camp #2128 meets every 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30 P.M. at the Golden Corral Restaurant, located in front of Walmart on Carolina Avenue (Highway 17 North) in Washington. As a relatively new Camp, we currently have approximately 20 members and encourage all those who are interested in their Confederate Heritage to visit with us and join.
We have had excellent programs and are also involved in different projects such as the Graves Registration Program to locate the burial sites of soldiers who served from Beaufort County.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate Soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to ensuring that the true history of the 1861 - 1865 period is preserved. Our organization is strictly patriotic, historical, educational, fraternal, benevolent, non-political, non-racial, and non-sectarian. The Sons of Confederate Veterans neither embraces, nor espouses acts or ideologies of racial and religious bigotry, and condemns the misuse of its sacred symbols and flags. Each member is expected to perform his full duty as a citizen according to his own conscience and understanding.
Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to male descendants, lineal or collateral, of those men who served honorably and whose service terminated honorably in the armed forces of the Confederate States of America or one of the States thereof. Applicants for membership must be men of good character, who emulate the best qualities of the Confederate soldier. No individual shall be admitted into membership who has not attained at least twelve (12) years of age.
